Moissanite is a unique gemstone known for its exceptional brilliance, fire, and durability. Discovered in the late 19th century by French chemist Henri Moissan, the gemstone was first identified in tiny crystals within a meteorite crater. These crystals, later classified as silicon carbide, became known as moissanite.
While naturally occurring moissanite is extremely rare and found in minute quantities within meteorites, the moissanite available on the market today is predominantly man-made. The lab-grown version is created by replicating the high-pressure, high-temperature conditions under which natural moissanite forms, resulting in gem-quality crystals that are nearly identical to their natural counterparts.
